What do you see when you stroll around your GnomeTown?

Litter? Overgrown grass on sidewalks and curbs? Fallen tree limbs or trees with low hanging branches? Any of these are potential hazards that negatively affect our mental health. Put simply, the things we see determine our state of mind. When our Neighborhood is NEGLECTED, our self-worth is diminished.

But what if things could be different? We all have the power to create change. Together, we can create a welcoming and vibrant community where people, nature, and vehicles can all coexist in Harmony.

At MetroGnomeLR, we are dedicated to transforming neglected urban green spaces into vibrant outdoor landscapes through community beautification projects.
We believe that our surroundings significantly impact our mental well-being and community spirit.
By enhancing walkable sidewalks, cleaning curbs and storm drains, ensuring litter-free streets, and eliminating neglect we foster stronger relationships among neighbors and promote a sense of pride in our shared environment.

Safe & Clean Streets Committee
MetroGnome LR is thrilled to be making a difference in the SoMa neighborhood of Little Rock by adopting 26 blocks of residential streets!
Our litter-removal efforts focus on clearing sidewalks and curbs of trash, sticks, and limbs, creating a fresh and inviting atmosphere.
A litter-free street not only boosts walkability but also makes our community more enjoyable for everyone!​
As a member of the Safe and Clean Streets Committee of the DLRNA, MetroGnome LR advocates for litter reduction, ensuring proper street lighting, and reducing the presence of overgrown vegetation that obscures visibility and limits walkability on our urban sidewalks.
Safe Streets should meet the needs of Pedestrians, Bicyclists, and Vehicles. This group collaborates with our city government to promote policies that bring Harmony of movement to our Neighborhood.

Gnoming
Have you ever heard a neighbor say, "I wish someone would fix that..." or "Sure would be nice if someone cleaned THAT up..."
QUESTION: Who is SOMEONE?

At MetroGnome LR, we believe that WE are SOMEONE.
When the pervasive attitude of a Community is that Responsibility for the care of our Neighborhoods lies elsewhere and Accountability for Neglect can't be upheld, the result is low standards and diminished pride in where we live. We can IGNORE PROBLEMS, or we can be CHANGE MAKERS.

HOW IT WORKS:
1. Identify the Project
Look at your surroundings. What would you like to change? What have your neighbors been complaining about? Choose a problem that you have the ability to solve, that will impact the livability in your Neighborhood.

2. Tool Time
Gather the needed resources to complete your project. When Gnoming, often this means actual tools (Rakes, shovels, pruners, trash cans).
Don't have a Tool that you need? See #3.

3. Collaborate
Many hands creates a lighter load! Recruit additional Gnomes to help with your Project. Think about the city resources that can assist you in your Project. Most Beautification Projects can be completed using a combination of borrowed tools, existing city services, and a little effort from a Gnome and his Gnomies.

4. Ask Permission
Essentially every piece of a city is owned. Determine who is responsible for the area you wish to improve and have a conversation with them. Explain that you want to Help Create Change, and How. These conversations are the cornerstone of how Gnoming builds Community Rapport. Not only will the responsible party usually gratefully approve your Project, but they will often have Resources or Insight into how your Project can be completed easier or offer to help!

5. Gnome!
​Do the Work! Shovel, Sweep, Prune, Mow, pick up litter or fallen limbs. Whatever your Project entails, get outside and do it! Don't be surprised if several of your Neighbors stop and talk to you as you work. Community Pride is infectious. Your Neighbors want Gnomes, and will want to hear about the Hope you are Gnoming back into your Neighborhood.

6. Disappear.
Like the Gnomes of folklore, you have just become the SOMEONE they needed to help bring Harmony and Beauty back to their lives.

Gnome - (Noun)
an ageless, magical, dwarfish creature of folklore, who is rumored to assist farmers or workers with their tasks and sometimes guards treasure. Often described as living underground, in a forest, or having the ability to turn invisible.
Gnoming - (Verb)
performing a range of tasks that transform neglected spaces into vibrant, harmonious landscapes through beautification projects.
These tasks could include picking up litter, general lawn care tasks (mowing, raking, shoveling, pruning, trimming, weed-eating, sweeping), planting flowers or shrubs, or other simiar actions, in public use spaces or for individuals who are unable to perform those actions due to disability or economic hardship.
